On the Radio

Right before I left France this summer, one of the hosts I stayed with asked me if I would like to be interviewed on the radio.  She hosts the Anglo Hour on Gascogne FM, an independent radio station located in Auch in the Gers department.  The Anglo Hour was a brainchild of the radio's program director, who wanted to entice more expats to listen to the station.  It airs on Sunday evenings and features my host interviewing a different English-speaking guest each week. 

Generally, Sarah interviews people who have moved to France and splits the interview up into 3 parts separated by pieces of music chosen by the interviewee.  The first part of the interview focuses on the interviewee's life before coming to France, the second part is based on the process of choosing a place in France and the challenges involved with setting up a new home in a new country and the final section highlights what the individual is doing in France to make ends meet!  It is a great means of getting free advertising for the businesses many of them have set up.

This interview format didn't really fit our specific situation since we haven't purchased a place yet. Sarah changed things up a bit to better suit my answers.  If you have an hour to spend, please have a listen here:

If it sounds a little stiff, it's because I was asked to write out all of my answers in advance so she could manage the timing of the interview.  Hopefully, I was able to make it sound lively.

Denver; take me to the museum.

In preparation for another season in Antarctica we are stationed in Denver. Sheri will have to go to the office while I can stay at the hotel. Even though I have been here often, I must admit that I have never really seen the city. This Saturday we walked around and made use of the fact that on the first Saturday of the month the Denver Art Museum is free. We enjoyed it enormously.


Afterwards I was wondering why I enjoyed it so much and came to the conclusion that 2 things really help;

-when there is stuff that you can touch or participate in

-when there is there is art that makes me feel like creating something myself.


The overall theme was: Marvelous Mud (porcelain, clay, sculptures from rock), but there were non-mud items as well. Since we were allowed to take pictures I can show you some of what I enjoyed.
