Montana

Exiting Yellowstone through the northern entrance, we passed a pronghorn antelope and lots of flaaaaat farmlands. We were planning on going to Glacier National Park even though the whole "Going to the Sun Road" (the road that completely traverses the park) wasn't cleared of snow, yet...but Sue (our Subaru) had other ideas.

As for the cause of the "Check Engine" light - the no-nonsense guys at a shop in Great Falls told us that if we were going to Alaska, we shouldn’t worry about our slightly faulty catalytic converter, a part that reduces the pollutants emitted by our auto, since the standards in that state are presumably less than, say California. They suggested that we wait to replace the $600 part until we get settled somewhere where we can shop around. We were stunned by their frankness. They turned off the "Check Engine " light and we decided to bypass Glacier and head directly into Canada.
