Back in Alaska - Blueberries

After spending some time in the Netherlands where we were pampered by Michiel's father, we have returned to Alaska for a short visit. We missed being here very much and are happy to be back. We immediately got invited to a BBQ, did a hike up to Palmer Creek where fall colors are in (nearly) their full glory and went to the Seaview bar for Jam night.

We also are very thankful to Barb for taking us to her very high yielding, very secret blueberry patch. We did not get blindfolded, but had to commit to a non-disclosure agreement in view of keeping this spot secret.
Unfortunately, we did not have scales but I estimate that in 2 hours Sheri and I were able to pick 6 lbs (3 kilos) of yummy blueberries. The sacrifices we had to make involved back pain, stained hands and the bites of the tiny White Socks which itch for days and days. Sheri got stung on her eyelid and it swelled up considerably. (Now she knows how you feel Marie-Birgitte).

We will enjoy the next 3 weeks here in Hope before flying out again for another season at McMurdo. In the meantime, we will be preparing for the ice by mailing boxes filled with dried fruit and other goodies and by doing some lesson planning (Sheri) for the new job. Sheri will also try to work in some time to fill in the weblog gap by preparing stories and photos from Tanzania.
