Boondoggles

Every so often we get opportunities to get away from town on some form of fun vehicle. These trips used to be called "Boondoggles" but are now referred to as "Morale Trips".

Michiel won a "morale trip" by being one of the first ten people to volunteer to clean up the gym after the big Halloween party. He was invited to go one evening after work on "The Road to Nowhere".

The Road to Nowhere heads out over the permanent ice shelf ("white ice") towards Mt. Erebus, passing a Weddell Seal colony along the way. Passengers are transported in giant orange vehicles called Deltas.

Here are a couple of photos of a seal in front of the pressure ridges of the Erebus ice tongue.

Dear Michiel,
It seems a bit paradoxical, a Morale trip on the Road to Nowhere, but it looks and sounds fantastic. I barely recognise you in your big Parka. Keep up the Blogging, we love it!

Hi guys,
we've got our own roads to nowhere, since some snow has fallen in Holland. Of course, everything falls apart then (well, we don't have any cool snow vehicles) and right now (10.15 pm)about 300 of kilometres of cars are standing still on various highways (A1, A50, A58, A2). And of course, the National Railways have problems, so people are stuck at railway stations as well)=> A small drama in a small country...les cold, though. (0 degrees C).
Hugs, Sandra
