It was one of those days that almost makes the whole season worth while.... Sunday, January 15, 2012 was warm (around freezing) and sunny, we had the day off and luckily we had decided to not take the path of least resistance (lazing around and watching a movie), but went for a hike.
One of the big sea ice (tidal) cracks around Hut Point has been opening more and more and there are some other open spots of water that allowed these penguins to come in and frolic.

I used a tripod, but you can see it shake sometimes from the wind
Wonderful! Do you think they were just playing or was there food in the water? Thank you.
It really felt like they were playing. Looking at each other to make the first move and then quickly all follow each other. The swimming on top of the water might be feeding though.
