Separate journeys to Antarctica

When we departed the ice last season, it had just been announced who the new contractor for the National Science Foundation in Antarctica would be. Lockheed is the new main contractor. Along with the main contractor comes a number of subcontractors (something to do with the fact that they want diversity and give veterans a fair share) who will perform certain aspects of the contract. IT contract workers like me will be working for a little company called GHG.
Sheri and I have been wanting to work at Palmer station for quite a while, so when we heard that there would be job openings, we tried our best to get them. Accepting in advance the risk that we might not both get hired. That is exactly what happened and so it happens that Michiel will be working as a Systems Administrator at Palmer station and Sheri will work at the McMurdo Help Desk.
It will be hard to be apart for so long.
